BLOG.
If there was ever a word that sounded like it came from a children's book, its BLOG.
While I have embraced web 2.0, I have yet to really get into blogging.
I myspace up a storm. Flickr is my new best friend. But blogging? I always thought that blogging seemed to self indulgent. Like, "Look at me! I am so interesting, I have a blog!" Then I realized I can make my blog be anything I want. It doesn't have to be an account of everything I have done today from brushing my teeth, to stopping for gas on the way home. It also doesn't have to be me jumping on my soap box to discuss the importance of literacy accross socio economic classes.
Basically its just me sharing my experiences as a children's librarian in an ever changing library environment.
Its an opportunity for me to gripe about the children who run around the children's room pulling books off the shelves and screaming their adorable little heads off.
It allows me to share my favorite books, effective storytime tips, my best craft ideas and to also read about other children's librarians and what works and doesn't work in their libraries.
It used to be that if I wanted a suggestion for a good fingerplay or rhyme I would ask my coworker, now I can ask a librarian 2000 miles away, and its just as quick and convenient as if she or he were sitting next to me.
So I will use this blog as a way of communicating, teaching and learning with my collegues both in the Charleston County library system and beyond.
